Cargo Transporters Honors Drivers During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week...
Claremont, NC August 20, 2007 - During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, August 26 - September 1, 2007, Cargo Transporters, headquartered in Claremont, will join a nationwide effort to honor the drivers who bolster our nation's economy.
"Our drivers are the key to our success and to the smooth operation of the overall economy," says John Pope, CEO for Cargo Transporters. "These drivers sacrifice many days on the highway away from their family, dealing with road construction, traffic congestion and many other delays and the job they do is critical. On top of all that, they do their jobs professionally and with safety as the top priority. These are the reasons we pause this week to salute all those who bring the goods to market we consume everyday," says Pope.
Did you know that the trucking industry annually transports nearly 70 percent of all freight in the United States? That's $671 billion-worth of goods transported by 3.24 million truck drivers, who are among the 8.6 million-person workforce in the United States alone. Did you know that more than 80 percent of U.S. communities depend solely on trucking for delivery of their goods and commodities? Did you know that at some point during its journey from producer to consumer, freight must be transported by truck? No other form of transportation-whether plane, ship, or train-can deliver goods door-to-door. Trucks must be involved to make it happen.
And not only does our nation's economic prosperity depend on the trucking industry to deliver the goods we need every day, our national and regional security and safety relies on the industry during emergencies as well.
Remarkably, our nation's long-haul drivers average more than 100,000 miles on the road per year. Yet, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the number of truck-involved fatalities dropped an estimated 3.7% in 2006.
To recognize and thank these professionals during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Cargo Transporters will hold lunch and dinner each day during the week for our drivers to show them our appreciation. Our company executives will be on hand to greet the drivers and thank them for the dedication to the company and to the industry.
Now that you know the facts, can there be any doubt as to the critical role truck drivers play in our nation's economy? So take time out during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week to join America in celebrating these professional drivers who make it happen safely, securely, and with pride in the job they perform.
